The first aspect of the 3-in-1 entity we are introduced to, in The Sandman: Preludes And Nocturnes, the name is rendered as "The Hecateae," indicating the plural. The three are variously named as Urth, Verthandi, and Skald (by Lucien), Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos (by Dream), the Hecateae (by Dream), Tisiphone, Alecto, and Magaera (by Hecate herself), Diana, Mary, Florence, and Candy (by Hecate), Cynthia, Mildred, and Mordred - or Morgaine - or Morrigan (by Hecate), the Three Graces (by Dream), Maiden, Mother, and Crone (by Dream), the Weird Sisters (by Dream), the Fates (by Hecate).

The next time we see Hecate is when Rose Walker encounters it (them? her?) in the rest home where her grandmother, Unity Kinkaid, resides as recounted in The Sandman: The Doll's House. At this time Hecate indicates "You wouldn't want to meet us as the Kindly Ones."

Calliope calls upon an aspect of Hecate, named Melete, Mneme, and Aiode, to free her from Richard Madoc in The Sandman: Dream Country.
