A Muse, captured by Erasmus Fry in the spring of 1927 at Mount Helicon as related in The Sandman: Dream Country. Fry is an author, and Calliope provides inspiration for the rest of his career. In May of 1986 Fry trades Calliope to Richard Madoc for a bezoar. Madoc is also an author, suffering from writer's block. Calliope provides inspiration to Madoc as she did to Fry.

Miserable, Calliope calls upon an aspect of Hecate to free her. Unable to help, Hecate suggests Dream, with whom Calliope had a child sometime in the past. When Madoc refuses to free Calliope because he "needs the ideas," Dream fills his head with story ideas until Madoc can stand it no longer. Madoc frees Calliope and Dream desists at her request.
